       A HOLIDAY PRAYER

It’s holy week                                                        We are masking our faces

For Christians and Jews                                         Helping neighbors survive

Should be loud Seder dinners                                 A new seasonal celebration

Should be singing from pews                                  To celebrate staying alive

Children should be running                                      So in the spirit of giving

Both inside and out                                                We will keep to ourselves

Chasing matzah and eggs                                        But we make sure our neighbors

That are scattered about                                       Have food on their shelves

But this year is different                                       Our feasts are upended

Our gather is fraught                                            By Covid-19

We can’t use the closeness                                     By far the worst virus

And the love we were taught                                  That we’ve ever not seen

So this year we are challenged                               So our meetings are smaller

To show faith and show love                                   And we must learn to roll

We have to support one another                                      And be pleased with the idea

While wearing a glove                                             We are saving many a soul

        So let covid passover

          Stay safe and stay home

         Keep yourself well protected

If you should have to roam

NEW PRODUCE QUIZ – WHO AM I ???

I am the proud, the sweet, the fruit of the Chicle tree.  I produce milky latex that is boiled down to form the major ingredient in chewing gum.  I am native to South America, but I am also grown in the West Indies, the Philippines, South Florida, and other tropical climates.  Some say I look like a cross between a potato and an apple.  I am round, lemon shaped or oblong, about 3 inches in diameter with a russeted rough, grayish brown edible skin.  I have four inedible black seeds (used to make tea) with a soft, sweet, fragrant pulp that is fine grained.  My flavor can be likened to the flavors of brown sugar or maple syrup.  Eaten with my skin on, like an apple, will mellow my intense sweetness.  My honey blonde deep reddish brown melt-in-your mouth pulp can be eaten out of hand or used in pancakes, rice custard and sherbet, fruit salads and wine.  I can also do amazing things to a root beer float.  I am quite high in fiber and considered to be a good source of potassium.  I contain vitamin C, sodium and iron as well.

THE ANSWER TO LAST WEEK’S QUIZ WAS … SNAKE FRUIT (SALAK)…CONGRATS TO ALL WINNERS
