You know chef size and marbles and bakers and B’s
Roosters and purples and russets and C’s
But can you recall
The coolest tater of all

Midnight the purple skinned tuber
Couldn’t really find a name
All of the other taters
Kept them out of every chain
*
Midnight Moon was the birth name
But fate said that just could not be
A trademark for a summer plum
Was owned by another company
*
Then one snowy Christmas Eve
A chef cut through the purple skin
Midnight’s gold flesh it shined so bright
Filling isles and plates with light
*
Now all the other taters
Gasp in awe at what they see
Midnight the unnamed tater
Will go down in history
