YOU PROVIDE THE RED WE’VE GOT THE WHITE & THE BLUE
The holiday is here and it’s great to celebrate with color. But our independence is a year round affair, not just 1 day out of 365. So in the spirit of the United States or just a desperate plea to try something new, we offer the River John Blue Potato. This is a long potato and it is attractively bumpy. The inside is uber cool. It looks like a blueberry milkshake that has not been well stirred. This is a creamy spud and it will bake up soft, but slice them for chips or blanch them for fries and the flavor really stands out. Great taste and cool colors combine with some amazing introductory pricing to make a great potato for restaurant or retail. Product is loading out of southern Florida and samples are available upon request. So be a patriot, a risk-taker, or a trendsetter, just don’t miss out. Oh, and as far as the red goes, ever heard of ketchup, sauce rouge, or salsa?

EAST COAST RAIN-WEST COAST GAIN
From the lower Midwest to the eastern shores of Georgia, rains have slowed picking on a number of summer necessities. Beans, peppers, various squash; both hard shell and specialty varieties, peas and tomatoes are all being affected as growers bide time until the skies clear. But necessity drives this engine and the show must go on. To that end, we want to inform you that things on the west coast are cruising right along. Plentiful supplies of the affected products listed above are available if you can make the freight work. Trucks are tight because of the impending holiday, but with a little searching around (and perhaps a bit of sticker shock) you can keep your customers supplied. Please, don’t forget to ask your Culinary rep for assistance. We will be glad to do whatever it takes to find you what you need.

INDEPENDENCE DAY
This is always a confusion for us. While our independence is as important as ever the need to make this a four day celebration seems a bit excessive. So, if you work for a union, it does not matter if the holiday falls on a day you do not work, holiday means a day off. Banks are closed on Saturday. LA market is closed Monday. Several other business’ are closed on Friday. So how do we support the business and the holiday? Easy, we will be here when you are. On Friday, we will work until the work is done, then shut ‘er down to weekend mode. Saturday will be normal hours, and on Monday once again we will be there when you are and go home when you do. We will leave the day you decide to blow up the grill, fall in the pool, golf till you drop, spend the day in traffic or light your finger up to you, if you call we will answer. Aside from the immense “milk it while you can” celebrations, please take a moment to reflect on exactly how important and valuable your own independence is, and what needs to be done to protect that. Then you can send a firecracker through the bathroom window. From us and ours to you and yours, we wish you a happy, healthy, and safe holiday, whatever day you choose. BOOM!

NEW PRODUCE QUIZ- WHO AM I ???
You began by calling me a turnip mutant while I am actually a cross between a member of the cabbage family and the turnip family. It is believed that I first appeared in Hungary sometime in the 17th century and I don’t think Alex Haley would argue. Then I saved your lives in Europe during World War II, being a prime source of nutrition when food supplies were scarce, and what do I get? Insults!! Today you have all but ignored me. In Northern Europe, I am currently used as fodder for cattle! URGGHH!! This is the thanks I get. Longer and rounder than the turnip I am usually yellow but some of my cousins are white. Truth is I have more of a kick then the turnip you all rave about these days and I more distinguished with my top hat where my leaves form. Stick that up your turnip and mash it! Eaten raw or cooked I am always more interesting then the turnip and can be used in soups, stews, pureed, or added to mashed potatoes. If you fine me too strong, I can be blanched for five before cooking. I am an excellent source of potassium and a good source of Vitamin C. I am also good diuretic and great for breaking windows.

Answer To Last Quiz….Cacoa or Cocoa Beans……Congrats To All Winners
